Our commitment
The Kids with Cancer Society is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of its donors, employees, pediatric oncology patients, their families, volunteers and other stakeholders. Information that is collected is held in the strictest confidence and accessed only by authorized personal. We value the trust of those we deal with, and of the public, and recognize that maintaining this trust requires that we be transparent and accountable in how we treat the information that you choose to share with us.
All information is collected in compliance with the provincial legislation, the Personal Information Protection and electronic documents act (PIPEDA)
During the course of our various projects and activities, we frequently gather and use personal information. Anyone from whom we collect such information should expect that it will be carefully protected and that any use of or other dealing with this information is subject to consent. Our privacy practices are designed to achieve this.
The Kids with Cancer Society does not share, disclose or sell personal information that has been collected on our donors, employees, families, volunteers and other stakeholders.
Defining personal information
Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include your name, contact information, correspondence with us, and any publicly available information such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.
Where an individual also uses his or her home contact information as business contact information we consider that the contact information provided is business contact information, and is not therefore subject to protection as personal information.
Privacy practices
Personal information gathered by our Society is kept in confidence. Our personnel and volunteers are authorized to access personal information based only on their need to deal with the information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. We also take measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained and to prevent its being lost or destroyed.

We routinely offer individuals we deal with the opportunity to opt not to have their information shared for purposes beyond those for which it was explicitly collected.
If you choose to provide personal information to the Kids with Cancer Society, we assume that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as outlined in the privacy policy or otherwise at the time of collection, use or disclosure.
If you do not wish your personal contact information to be used in the aforementioned manner you may notify us at any time and your information will be removed from our databases and informational lists.
Security Safeguards
We take precautions to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, inappropriate alternation and misuse. All safety and security measures are appropriate to the sensitively level of your information. We use technological safeguards such as encryption passwords to protect personal and other information.
Updating of privacy policy
We reserve the right to revise this privacy policy in accordance with PIPEDA regulations. If material changes are made, this privacy policy will be updated accordingly. We recommend that you review our privacy policy periodically so that you are aware of any changes. Your continuous use of our web-site following the posting of any changes to this privacy policy shall constitute our acceptance of these changes.
