| The Dave Lede Family Charitable Foundation Kids with Cancer Society Facility |

For many years the Kids with Cancer Society has dreamed of providing a facility in close proximity to the hospital, a place where families can gain support and information. Recently, this dream became a reality with a $500,000.00 donation from the Dave Lede Family Charitable Foundation. The Dave Lede Family Foundation acknowledged the critical services to children with cancer and their families stating that the Kids with Cancer Society had demonstrated a need for an increased facility to more effectively provide programs and services. We are excited about this one of a kind initiative and look forward to providing updates as they become available. Our sincere thanks to the Dave Lede Family Foundation and Mr.Bob Walker, of Ledcor Construction, for believing in our Society and for providing such a wonderful gift to our children and their families.
Kids With Cancer Society House
The Kids with Cancer Society is proud to announce the official opening of the Kids with Cancer Society House. Located at 11135 – 84 Ave, just steps away from medical facilities that dominate the lives of children with cancer and their families. The Kids with Cancer Society House offers a home-like environment for families to relax in, connect with other families and access support programs.
The staff and volunteers of the KWCS would like to extend an invitation to all KWCS families to stop by and help make the house a home. Drop in for a cup of coffee and lunch with another family in treatment; take the time for a workout in the gym; reserve the private family room to celebrate a milestone or enjoy family time; or come round for play-time between appointments and during passes.
In addition to the unstructured support that the House offers, the KWCS is looking forward to moving a number of existing programs to the House in 2010. Supervised childcare for siblings is also in the works for the New Year. Childcare is a top request of many families during treatment and the KWCS is taking steps to create a safe volunteer-run drop in center.
Currently, the KWCS House is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. If you have a special request to use the house outside of opening hours, please call the office and the staff will do their best to accommodate your needs.
The KWCS House has been made possible by a $500,000 donation by the Dave Lede Family Charitable Foundation and a matching grant from the Alberta Lottery Fund’s Major Community Facilities Program.
