ALL of the following events are for KWCS Families ONLY.
Kids with Cancer Society House Events
Throughout the year KWCS hosts several special events for our families at the KWCS house. Halloween and Easter parties are just a couple to mention. Families can stay updated on upcoming events by looking out for KWCS emails and posters displayed in the hospital. For more information on the special events held at the house, please phone 780-496-2459.
Parade of Heroes – May
The Parade of Heroes is a fun-filled afternoon held annually at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton. All KWCS families are invited to attend and enjoy games, face painting, bouncy castle and BBQ. Children are given the opportunity to take a ride on a motorcycle around the park and explore the cool machines driven by many of the Revving Up for Kids fundraiser participants and local motorcycle groups.
Tour of Hope Finish Line Celebration – June
Tour of Hope Finish Line Celebration, sponsored by General Recycling Ltd. is the official closing party of the annual cycling adventure. All families who have experienced childhood cancer are invited to attend. Tour of Hope participants are given a heroes welcome and are invited to meet the children who deal with their disease with so much courage and determination that they inspire those around them. Very often we hear from parents that it is the child that gives them the strength to deal with the challenges placed before them. These kinds of stories are motivating for the cyclists and the support and care shown by the riders is motivating for our families. For more information, please phone 780-496-2459.
Camp Beat It (Family Camp) – September long weekend
This four day weekend at Camp He Ho Ha provides an indoor camping experience for families who are at various stages of the disease and survivorship. Activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, mini golf, climbing wall, family dances, and ropes course provides families with an opportunity to reach out to others and promote interaction and acceptance. At the end of the weekend many of the families leave the camp with a sense that they are not alone in the fight against childhood cancer. It also provides newly diagnosed families with a feeling of hope as they see children who have survived the disease. Camp Beat It is made possible by the generous support of the Ralph Hole Jr. Memorial Fund and the Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund.
Camp Beat It was started with visionary funding from Ralph Hole Jr Memorial Fund and every year they continue to support camp. For more information, please phone 780-496-2459.
